Petrol Ride On’s

By purchasing and using the Petrol Ride-on you are stating that you have a working knowledge of petrol engines and have the required skills needed in order to build and maintain this type of product.

As with any petrol engine these petrol Ride Ons require consistent maintenance and you will be required to service the engine and fit parts to this product as usage requires.

We strongly recommend that should you not have these skills or know a competent person who can help, you do not purchase this item.

Maintenance examples are listed below, always read the instruction manual provided with the item for more detailed information

  • Quad and Bike Frame, Fork and Handlebars – Check for cracks or broken connections. Although broken frames are rare, Get in the habit of inspecting yours regularly.
  • 2 Stroke engines use a mixture of the unleaded gasoline and the two cycle engine oil. We recommend silkolene scoot 2 or Lucas Oil 2 Stroke oil for problem free operation of your mini quad bike. The volume ratio is 25:1. Do not use any degraded fuel (sour smelling) or fuel of wrong mixture ratio. It will cause issues with the engine starting, insufficient output and may damage the engine.
  • NEVER run the engine in a room or poorly ventilated area due to hazardous carbon monoxide emissions
  • Regularly check the wear and tear of the brake pads the thickness of the lining of the four pads should never be less than 1mm.
  • Keep the spark plug in good condition will reduce fuel consumption and increase engine performance.
  • Spark plugs need to be replaced after every 20-30 hours of use.
  • It is very important to keep the tyre in good condition at all times and use the correct size and type of tyre when replacing used ones.
  • Make sure to check the tyre pressure is correct before every use. Only inflate the tyre while the tyre is cold.
  • Tyre tread depth should be checked regularly. NEVER use the vehicle if the tyre is damaged or distorted. Tyre maintenance should be done by an authorized technician.
  • On cold days, warm up the engine for a few minutes before commencing start off.
  • Carefully clean and dry the chain-gear-position assembly and then apply grease thoroughly in order to keep these parts in good condition as long as possible.
  • Pull Start Mechanisms should NEVER be pulled more than 20cms and cannot withstand vigorous over pulls as this may damage them
  • Air filters should be cleaned regularly, every other time you use the vehicle or every time in dusty conditions
  • The fuel filter will need to be replaced every 6 month or so depending on use
  • Throttle/Clutch Cable needs to be lubricated and changed as needed
  • Carburettor should be cleaned as needed but at least every 3 months
  • Fuel Lines should be checked before you take vehicle out and changed if needed
  • Chain should be kept properly lubricated and tightened
  • Bearings should be kept properly lubricated
  • Bike should be cleaned after every use

How to check Spark Plugs.

  • Firstly take the spark plug cap carefully off the spark plug and then remove it from the engine.
  • Replace the cap and holding the cable/ HT leads (so you don’t get a shock), place the end of the plug against the cylinder head.
  • Turn the key but make sure the safety switch is in the ON position.
  • Pull the pull cord whilst holding the plug against the engine. You should see a bright blue spark.

And here are some solutions if the blue spark doesn’t appear:

  • Try cleaning the spark plug.
  • Replace the spark plug

After this if there still isn’t a spark you could have a fault with either the safety switch or the key barrel. You will have to test these one at a time to see where the fault is. Disconnect them in turn and see if that will generate a spark.

If you have exhausted all these possibilities then the fault could lie with the coil pack and will need replacing.

Checks for Ride On’s

Every time you use your Ride on toy whether it’s a Car, Jeep, Quad, Bike or Go-kart we recommend that you give it a look over to make sure everything is in working order and safe to use.

Some general checks we recommend are:

  • Visual checks  Kids just want to have fun, but before each use always give the toy a look over, Pay close attention for any sharp edges or points, cracks that may cause harm, or any other signs of wear and tear to ensure the ride on is safe to use.
  • Loose parts – Check and secure all fasteners before every use. For Bikes and Quads make sure steering stem clamp bolts are locked properly in place. There should not be any unusual rattles or sounds from loose parts or broken components. If you are not sure ask an experienced mechanic to check.
  • Brake – If the toy has a brake check for proper function.
  • Quad and Bike Frame, Fork and Handlebars – Check for cracks or broken connections. Although broken frames are rare, Get in the habit of inspecting yours regularly. For Ride On Cars and Jeeps make sure there isn’t any damage to the bottom of the toy.
  • Tyre Inflation – Periodically inspect the tyres for excess wear, and regularly check the tyre pressure and re- inflate as necessary.
  • Safety Gear – Always wear the appropriate protective equipment such as an approved safety helmet, elbow pads and kneepads. NEVER drive with no shoes, always wear full shoes eg, Trainers

Please remember that all Ride on Toys whether they are Cars, Jeeps, Bikes, Quads or Go karts should only be used under the supervision of a responsible adult.

Charging the battery

  • Charge the battery fully before using the ride on for the first time for between 8 – 10 hours. NEVER charge for more than 12, see instructions for details
  • Make sure that the charger is getting warm after the ride on has been on charge for an hour or so.
  • NEVER try and use the Ride On whilst charging.
  • Charge the battery immediately after each use
  • Charge the battery at least once a month even when not in use – Failure to do so may result in irreversible damage to the battery.
